Bechtel is again the largest US contractor in the Engineering News Record Top 400 for 2003. The annual survey shows the firm working on a total $18,066M worth of contracts in the year, a huge 36% increase on 2002.
Second largest firm is Centex, Fluor Corp is third, Turner Corporation fourth and Jacobs fifth. Skanska USA and Bovis Lend Lease are the first two international names on the list, in the next two positions.
Six European engineering bodies have signed up to a declaration aiming to ensure designers take into account health and safety standards.
The European Council of Civil Engineers, European Construction Industry Federation and the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Association were among the signatories of the Bilbao Declaration at the European Construction Safety Summit this week.
