A report setting out initial plans for New Orleans was released last month by the Bring New Orleans Back commission, a body set up by the city's mayor Ray Nagin. It states that there will be a complete levee protection system upgrade before the end of 2007. It also confirmed that some flooded neighbourhoods would be turned into parkland which will also act as flood defences.
