What the papers say

A relaxing of the rules governing speed cameras could see cameras used on longer, crash-free stretches of road. Police chiefs claim extended powers are needed to prevent accidents as motorcyclists in particular often slow down by the cameras, dangerously speeding up once they have gone past.

A predicted hike in French electricity prices could see bills for homes in London and the South East rise by a further 10% by the end of the year. French energy company EDF Energy is blaming steep rises in wholesale electricity and gas costs driven by high oil prices and concern over Britain's growing dependence on imported gas.
