What the papers say

Toronto's Transit Commission has estimated it needs £1.8bn just to maintain the city's subway system after years of neglect and deterioration.

Both the Ontario and federal government have promised to increase infrastructure and social housing spending to reverse the decline in the condition of infrastructure in the city.

Preliminary works have started on the £1.1bn redevelopment of Battersea Power station after developers, Parkview International, found tenants for a fifth of the station's retail space.

The development, including a £25m upgrade to Battersea Park railway station, is due to be completed in 2008.
