New York's £200M flood defence

The BIG Team has released images of how Manhattan’s U-shaped flood defence will look.

The international consortium, featuring architects Bjarke Ingels Group and engineers Buro Happold among others, was awarded funding of $335M (£200M) for its proposal this week.

It was one of six teams selected as winners in the Rebuild by Design competition which aimed to find ways of improving resilience post Hurricane Sandy.

The protective system will take different forms in each district, enhancing the public realm as well as guarding against floods.
