New wind farm consortium sets sights on becoming electricity firm

A consortium of three organisations has been set up to bid for offshore wind farm development licences in the North Sea, it was announced yesterday.

Banks Developments, Hainsford Developments and the New and Renewable Energy Centre have formed Northumbria Offshore Wind (NOW) offering technical research and development, manufacturing, operations, maintenance, project development and offshore knowledge.

NOW is planning to bid for licences as part of the Crown Estate’s round three leasing programme for offshore wind power.

Its bid will include plans to form a new electricity company, based in the north east of England, to supply green electricity created in the North Sea to both business and domestic consumers.
