New Wear bridge delayed again

The tender return date for the £118M New Wear bridge has been delayed by another month, NCE has learnt this week.

Contractors bidding for the 336m long, cable stayed crossing were originally expected to submit their bids by 20 March this year, according to construction industry analyst Glenigan. This was delayed until 24 April, revealed last month, and now has been delayed again until 22 May.

Contractors Balfour Beatty and Ferrovial pulled out of bidding for the project earlier this year, leaving Vinci and Graham Construction in the running.
