New type of concrete crash barrier

A new type of concrete crash barrier, the step barrier, has been recommended by the Highways Agency for highly trafficked motorways in preference to the existing type of deformable steel barriers. The step profile barrier, developed by the Dutch road authorities, causes cars to slide along it. Deformation of steel barriers can cause cars to crush.
