New training body aims to plug gaps

A PAN-INDUSTRY body has been set up to identify the shortfall in short course training for geotechnical professionals.

The Engineering Group of the Geological Society has joined forces with AGS and BGS to form the Geotechnical Training Co-ordination Committee.

GTTC will be collating information on suitable courses in geotechnics and identify any gaps in training. It will then encourage member groups or other organisations to run new courses to fill these gaps.

GTTC eventually hopes to publish a regularly updated list of courses. These will have to meet a number of quality control criteria to be endorsed by the Geological Society. A list (not yet endorsed) can be found at www.geolsoc. org.uk.

Information about courses should be sent to Andrew Bowden, e-mail address: andrew_bowden@ mouchel.com
