New sustainability reporting guidelines launched

A new set of global reporting guidlines on sustainability in the built environment have been launched by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The scheme aims to provide built environment professionals with a framework for reporting across a range of sustainability issues including carbon emissions, water use and sub-contracted labour issues connected to buildings.

GRI’s Construction and Real Estate Supplement performance indicators were designed by Arup.

Arup said that measuring, monitoring and reporting the sustainability of construction activities and buildings has suffered from a lack of consistency, but these guidelines would help to change that.
