New ICE Scotland director takes up post

Newly-appointed ICE Scotland director Sara Thiam will start her new role today.

Thiam was most recently manager of the Glasgow Edinburgh Collaboration Initiative, a partnership of both cities and Scottish Enterprise. During her time there, she championed projects for economic growth and favoured extending the high speed rail line (HS2) to Scotland, chairing Transport Scotland’s High Speed Rail Promotion group.

In her new role she will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the Regional Support Team and delivering the activities of the ICE Scotland business plan. She will also manage the delivery of membership development support, communication and external relations.

“My role is to raise the profile of civil engineering and maintain professional standards,” said Thiam. “Scotland’s economic, social and environmental future depends on a high quality and well functioning infrastructure, delivered by its civil engineers.

“This is vital to our way of life and never more so than at a time when we are undertaking an economic recovery. I’m looking forward to working with our eight and a half thousand members in Scotland to play our part in this.”
