New CRT chairman

The new chairman of the Construction Round Table is to be John Kerman CEng, MICE, Director & Chief Highway Engineer of the UK Highways Agency. Kerman takes over from Railtrack Director of Development Martin Reynolds on 1 August.

John Kerman is a chartered civil engineer and has specialised in highway engineering since entering the profession in 1963. He was appointed to his current position in the Highways Agency in 1997 and is responsible for the Agency's Technical Policy, all engineering and specialist support for project development, and for its extensive research and development programme.

'I am honoured to be appointed Chairman of the Construction Round Table,' John Kerman says. 'The major construction clients, which form the CRT, are committed to working together to lead fundamental change in the effectiveness of our industry.

'Our Agenda for Change has already established our vision and aligns directly with the Movement for Innovation. I want to see us being central to, and maintaining, the current momentum for change, ensuring that we, as major clients, lead the industry by example.'
