New £77M piers at Gatwick Airport will be fitted with solar panels

New £77M piers at Gatwick Airport will be fitted with solar panels. By installing mono crystalline photovoltaic cells, BAA aims to reduce CO 2emissions, meet sustainability objectives and cut electricity costs. The piers will include a 125m span connection allowing aircraft as large as 747s to pass beneath. Work is set to start on site at the end of the month and complete by June 2002.
