Network Rail awards Balfour Beatty Crossrail rail upgrade contract

Rail operator Network Rail has awarded contractor Balfour Beatty a contract worth around £40-50M to upgrade 19km of track for Crossrail services.

The section of track forms part of the “west outer” route from West Drayton to Maidenhead.

The project is expected to start this summer and be completed in the summer of 2017. Work follows the completion of contractor Osborne’s £7M contract for signalling renewal work along the entire 27km route, which is due to finish in spring this year.

Balfour Beatty Rail will be responsible for designing, installing and commissioning new tracks.

It will also work on lowering bridges to allow for overhead lines and minor upgrades on overhead lines and electrical equipment.
