Hewson Consulting Engineers is founded on an underlying passion for good engineering and creative design.
It prides itself on listening to its clients and developing bespoke solutions that suit their particular needs and those of the project.
For example at the start of the project to build a new road/rail viaduct at Pont Briwet, Snowdonia (pictured), the firm identified potential to minimise capital and future maintenance costs by using a fully integral arrangement along the entire 134m of bridge.
The firm likes to think outside the box and is not afraid to challenge the “norm” boasting bags of enthusiasm for what it does and for giving clients great service.
Just some of the projects Hewson has worked on in the past year alone include: Wessex Capacity Upgrade; Whitechapel Crossrail Station; Edinburgh Gateway Station; Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route; Jakarta MRT; PMB and Temburong Crossings in Brunei; Liantang LC3 & LC6, T2 and P2 Highways in Hong Kong, Subiyah Causeway Bridge in Kuwait; and the Kuala Lumpur to Singapore HSR.
Critical to Hewson’s success are its staff, which the firm recognises by prioritising their development through mentoring and rotation between projects. It sees many of its engineers as future leaders and works to help them achieve their potential. The company describes itself as a friendly and welcoming team, committed to delivering great designs and excellent solutions on every project – large or small.
Hewson staff are equally vocal about what makes it a great place to work and here are a few examples of what they say:
- “… the company encourages its staff to grow and reach their potential” [senior engineer].
- “… [you get] the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of projects and an extensive variety of tasks. …to develop your basic principles to be applicable to any challenge” [graduate engineer].
- “Hewson has given me a great variety of experience. I have been able to work on large projects and be an integral part of the team. Everyone is helpful and supportive; It’s a lovely place to develop my skills.” [scholarship scheme student engineer].
