NCE reporter scoops top award for Afghanistan reporting

Former NCE reporter Jon Young last night scooped the Young Journalist of the Year award at the International Building Press National Journalism awards

Jon claimed the award for his fearless reporting from the frontline in Afghanistan, where he spent a week with the Royal Engineers as they spearheaded the fight against the Taleban.

Jon came under regular fire as he journeyed deep into Taleban-occupied territory with the Engineers to report on their work to secure vital water supplies and build military strongholds.

He also won praise from the judges for his in-depth analysis of the impact on the industry of the revised CDM regulations.

Jon left NCE in the summer to work on an English-speaking daily newspaper in Poland but still regularly contributes articles for the magazine. His award was collected on his behalf by NCE's features & online editor Mark Hansford.

NCE was also shortlisted for website of the year, which the judges commended for its "clear simplicity" which made it "ideal for engineers". NCE writer David Hayward was also shortlisted as feature writer of the year.
