Naming names

I enjoyed Dave Parker's editorial (NCE 22/29 August) in connection with the naming of bridges. It is like an artist signing a painting because he is proud of it.

Perhaps we do not always have the same bridge design flair that the French have but when we do - and the bridge and viaduct built over the River Severn and opened in 1996 is surely a magnificent example - we can only refer to it as the 'Second Severn Crossing'.

Are we not proud of it? Can we not think of a more fitting name? St David's Bridge, English Stones Bridge?
