Names & faces

Chris Binnie (F) has joined Binnie Black & Veatch as deputy chairman, rejoining the firm founded by his great grandfather. His role will be to raise the profile of the business following his retirement from WS Atkins where he was a main board director.

Peter Head (F), chief executive of Maunsell's European activities, has been awarded the 1998 International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering.

Chris Wise, director of Ove Arup & Partners, has been honoured with appointment to the Faculty of Royal Designers for Industry by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Bruce Jones (M) is managing director at consultant Magenta Management, specialising in water and IT projects.

Philip Toczek (M) has set up PT Consultancy, an independent management firm specialising in the construction sector.

Jason Parker and Dr Chris Evens join the special projects division of May Gurney (Technical Services). John Chick is southern area manager.

Paul Whiteman is commercial manager for the civils business unit at Tarmac Precast Concrete. Howard Lloyd takes over as commercial manager at Charcon Tunnels.

Peter Lock is appointed quality manager at Taylor Woodrow Civil Engineering.
