The Watford & Bletchley Alliance, part of the Railtrack West Coast Route Modernisation programme, has appointed John Hester (M) project director.

The first chairman of the UK's new engineering and technology board will be Sir Peter Williams, currently master of St Catherine's College Oxford and chairman of the National Museum of Science & Industry.

Steve Rice has joined WS Atkins Rail from Interfleet Technology, as product development manager in the company's rail vehicle group based in Derby.

Murray Bateman has joined Listers Geotechnical Consultants as a senior geotechnical engineer based at its main offices and laboratories in Northamptonshire.

He replaces Geoffrey Child who is now a consultant to the practice.

BAA has appointed Tony Douglas, currently group supply chain director, to group technical director. He replaces Mike Roberts, who has decided to retire early from the company at the end of this year.

Tony Davies has been appointed managing director of Osborne's maintenance division.

Davies was previously group director for the ROC Group, formerly EBC, and has been in the construction industry for 35 years.

Infrasoft Solutions, the provider of bespoke solutions for the civil engineering market, has appointed two new directors, Stuart Spencer and Robin Akers.
