Six facts about…Peter Chong, senior technical director WSP UK
1 Chong has recently joined WSP Rail as senior technical director.
2 He has 30 years of civil, structural and geotechnical engineering experience in the UK and overseas. He has also appeared as an expert witness.
3 Chong appeared on Channel 4's “Demolition Day” programme, where contestants design an edifice and then destroy their opponents' structure. Chong's concept of “indestructible jelly” helped his team win.
4 His passion is bridges.Chong recently presented a paper on the current and future trends in bridge design at an ICE organised conference in Beijing.
5 As a keen DIY enthusiast, he has carried out a diverse portfolio of projects including bathroom refits and electrical fit outs.
6 Chong lectures on railway bridge design and frequently speaks at ICE and Institution of Structural Engineers meetings.- Pell Frischmann has appointed Andy Twyford as technical director within its land development and regeneration division. He has over 14 years experience in infrastructure spanning the public and private sectors. He was most recently associate director with Clarke Bond where he was responsible for infrastructure design on several Thames Gateway housing developments as well
as Aston Student Villages.
- Richard Totty has moved to Bachy Soletanche's Sol Experts team as an engineer. Totty joined the firm after finishing university in 2003, and will now work at the company headquarters in Nanterre, on the outskirts
- Peter Brett Associates has appointed David McSherry as energy services director. McSherry brings considerable commercial and strategic energy policy experience, having led projects in the conventional and renewable energy sectors across the globe. He will be responsible for the strategic development of the expanded energy services and utilities team at Peter Brett, to ensure the firm remains at the forefront of the fast-changing energy sector.
- Consultant Clarke Bond has announced the appointment of Faruk Pekbeken as an associate director. He will be specifically responsible for developing Clarke Bond's water services as well as developing the civil engineering business in the south east and London, where he will be based.
- Darren Brockett has been promoted to managing director of Rock & Alluvium, Galliford Try's specialist piling subsidiary.He was previously construction director and joined the company in April last year. He was previously southern region operations manager for Stent Foundations.
