N Wales gives Wales association thumbs up

ICE news

MEMBERS OF the North Wales branch of the North West association voted in favour of theproposal of the new Wales association at the branch's AGM last week.

Concern was expressed about the distance between Cardiff and North Wales and the need to develop good communication links with the Wales association committee. It was suggested that video conferencing would be essential, but that this would be no substitute for regular representation by North Wales branch members at committee meetings.

Incoming branch chairman, Bob Daimond of Gwynedd Council, pledged his support. He hopes to be an active member of the LA Committee and to make sure that the voice of the branch is heard. Terry Brown of Anglesey County Council and Dafydd Williams of Gwynedd Council, were elected vice chairman and secretary of the branch respectively.

The new Wales LA will be formed subject to a positive counterpart vote of the South Wales LA at its EGM today (18 May) and final approval from the ICE Council.
