Murphy begins work on 1.3km long London tunnel

Contractor Murphy has begun work on a £10M cable tunnel stretching for 1.3km underneath north west London.

Murphy has this month started work on site to complete the 2.44m diameter tunnel, which will be used to accommodate new electricity cables. The project is set to complete in August 2013.

Client UK Power Networks appointed the contractor for partial design, construction and project management of the tunnel, which runs from Brentfield Park to Willesden.

Murphy will also construct three vertical shafts, one of which requires secant piling.
