Contractor Mowlem reached a critical stage last week in its £3.1M project to build a bowstring arch bridge across the River Aln in Lesbury, when an 800t crane lifted into position the 55m long twin supporting tubular arches. Designed by Northumberland County Council the new bridge features the largest steel sections to have been induction bent in the UK, measuring 1067mm in diameter.
