Motts/Connell Wagner forge global building link

A GLOBAL building engineering design alliance has been launched by Wembley Stadium design partners Mott MacDonald and Australia-based Connell Wagner.

Intended to challenge such market leaders as Arup and Buro Happold, the new 'virtual company' will operate out of offices in more than 50 countries under the new name Connell Mott MacDonald.

Around 800 building engineers will form the staff pool of the new organisation, although they will continue to be employed either by Mott MacDonald or Connell Wagner.

Connell Mott Macdonald director Mike Barker said the move was the latest development in a successful association that went back 30 years. 'We've often worked together on specific projects like Wembley and Terminal 5, and we formed Mott Connell as a joint company in Hong Kong to design the terminal at Chek Lap Kok, ' he added.

'Now, by coming together on a permanent basis we can go head to head with the market leaders.'
