Mott MacDonald wins Welsh metro contract

Mott MacDonald has won a contract with Transport for Wales (TfW) to provide engineering consultancy for two key projects.

The consultant will provide services for procurement of the next Wales and Borders franchise, as well as development and delivery of the South Wales Metro – which will be part of the Wales and Borders franchise. Work could include new stations and converting lines in the Valleys into light rail.

Mott MacDonald’s engineering manager Paul Maliphant said: “South Wales Metro has the potential to significantly change Wales for the better. It will improve connections between labour markets and residential communities, creating new opportunities for regional tourism and recreation assets.”

The contract is until the end of the first quarter of 2018, although there could be a one year extension.
