Webasto supplies winter start kit for army JCBs

Commercial vehicle climate control specialist Webasto has won a contract to supply engine and interior heating systems on JCB machines being supplied to the British Army.

The “winterisation kits” will be fitted to 22 of the 98 wheel loading shovels ordered by Ministry of Defence provider ALC, as well as to four backhoe loaders.

The kits, based on Webasto’s Thermo 90 water heating system, provide heating via the fuel system, coolant circuit and battery to enable the engine to start in extremely low temperatures (-40°), as well as warming up the cab interior.

Webasto engineers have installed the equipment on a pre-production machine and carried out climate chamber testing. JCB will install the remaining kits.
