ICE’s Mentor of the Year

A civil engineer well-known for his commitment to mentoring has beem recognised by the ICE for his dedication. The ICE Mentor of the Year is Mark Brown, director at Hyder Consulting in Warrington.


Brown has been an active ICE member during his career, becoming a Fellow in 2009 at the age of 38.
The judges noted his work at Hyder but also commended him on his ‘breadth of training civil engineering talent outside Hyder and his passion for mentoring the profession’. He was nominated by colleague Sophie Smith, who has experienced first hand Brown’s commitment to the professional development of young civil engineers.
She pointed out that his commitment to graduate training and development is assisting the professional progression of over 100 ICE graduates within Hyder Consulting UK. “Mark has an extremely strong sense of responsibility to every graduate he mentors,” she said.
