Costain JV wins contract with Magnox

Costain has announced that it has been awarded a framework contract by Magnox Limited as part of a joint venture with AMEC and Jacobs Engineering Group.

Under the terms of the contract, the joint venture will retrieve and process both wet and solid intermediate level radioactive waste across all the Magnox sites in the UK.

The scope of services provided by the joint venture partners will include the design, construction, commissioning and operation of facilities that retrieve and package the radioactive waste, together with the de-contamination of associated facilities.

Costain chief executive Andrew Wyllie said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and we believe it demonstrates our strength and expertise in this highly specialised and complex area.

“The UK’s nuclear decommissioning programme is of major strategic importance and this is a long-term contract with clear and visible revenue streams.

“We are looking forward to deploying our expertise across the Magnox sites as we meet the challenges of accelerated decommissioning.”
