Bison supplies precast concrete flooring and staircase for £7.5M Northumberland scheme

Bison Manufacturing will supply its precast Hollowcore flooring and staircase products for a £7.5M regeneration scheme in Alnwick, Northumberland, working closely with Gentoo Construction.

Bison is providing 5,579m2 of Hollowcore alongside 26m3 of staircases for the upper level areas of the development.  The mixed use development for Gentoo Homes includes 51 one and two bedroom apartments, 18 affordable homes and provision for seven new retails units totalling 8.5km².

The ability of Bison’s Hollowcore flooring to insulate against airborne sound transfer was a strong factor in the business winning the precast contract for the scheme. Capable of resisting airborne sound with no additional insulation, Bison’s Hollowcore product was installed on-site and then fixed with an impact-resistant membrane to further improve the acoustic performance of the precast units – an important factor given the number of apartments included in the development.

“This is an interesting project in a prime location within Alnwick,” said Bison Manufacturing sales and estimating leader Norman Brown. “We’ve worked with Gentoo previously on a number of schemes and we’re delighted to team up again on this regeneration project. Our precast products are well suited to residential projects and our Hollowcore floor units offer excellent performance in terms of structural capability and sound insulation, particularly within multi-occupancy developments.”
