Morale booster

ANALYSIS

My comment that 'the shift from road building to maintenance is also poor for engineers' morale' (NCE 9 September) could be read as being detrimental to those who work in this very important part of our business.

In fact, a greater priority is now placed by central and local government on maintenance and management of the existing road network and this has significantly increased the potential for cost effective and innovative engineering solutions - to the immense satisfaction of professionals working in this sphere.
