So this is what the great Institution is all about! I quote from the recent voting paper concerning proposed amendments to the bylaws: 'The billing and collection of subscriptions is the largest and single most important operation undertaken by the Institution'.

How foolish of me ! I proudly became a member many years ago thinking, obviously mistakenly, that the single most important operation undertaken was to maintain and encourage a professional body dedicated to furthering the art and science of civil engineering.

Are you surprised that I was one of the many who voted against the proposed increases in subscriptions- Is anybody in Great George Street thinking ?
