Missed a trick?

Having read your news item 'Top bridge engineers unite to bring design back down to earth' (NCE 28 June), I looked at this week's (NCE 5 July) cover with a mixture of bewilderment and dismay.

Is this a serious proposal, or am I missing some vital key to understanding 'the concept'?

If the designer has 'deliberately ignored the manufacturing process' can he or someone explain how the structure would be built and, equally important, maintained?
