Miscasting the net

I was concerned that your article 'Are you the weakest link' (NCE 13 September) may have given the impression that the ability to network is fundamental to securing a management position within the construction industry.

Surely the individual's effectiveness as a manager will be determined by their ability across a broad range of competencies. Placing undue emphasis on a single competence, especially networking, will do little to tackle the problem of poor business management within the industry, which your magazine identified last year.
