Millennium Development Goals

ICE news

The Millennium Development Goals were agreed five years ago. By 2015 they aim to:

Halve the proportion of people whose income is less than $1 a day and halve the proportion of people suffering from hunger

Ensure that all children complete primary schooling

Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education

Reduce child mortality by two-thirds, compared to 1990 levels

Reduce death during or following childbirth by threequarters

Halt the spread of HIV/ AIDS

Halt the spread of malaria

Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and reverse the loss of environmental resources

Halve the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation

Improve the lives of at least 100M slum dwellers

Develop an open, rulebased, non-discriminatory trading and financial system

Improve trade, and reduce the tariff and debt burdens of the world's poorest nations

Help developing nations create jobs for the youngest members of the adult workforce

Provide ffordable medication

Provide ccess to information and communication technology
