Millau exposes UK vision

Letters

The Millau viaduct (NCE 16 December) is a magnificent and awe-inspiring structure and one cannot help but be impressed - not only by the boldness of the design but by this French no-nonsense solution to what was a road congestion problem.

Their approach puts into shade our British, or more specifically our government's, lack of action and foresight in solving the long standing problems of the many heavily congested roads and traffic bottlenecks in this country.

A basic network of motorways and major roads is a fundamental requirement for this and other developed nations and the absence of prompt action in removing obvious gaps and restrictions in the network puts this country, in comparison with our continental friends, back in the Dark Ages.

John Potter (M), Boshill Court, Axmouth, East Devon, EX12 4BL
