Michael Meacher to give Symonds Lecture

ENVIRONMENT MINISTER Michael Meacher is to give this year's Symonds Safety Lecture at the ICE.

His speech will focus on the results of the Safety Summit (NCE 22 February), the success or otherwise of the first six years of the CDM regulations, and future legislation regarding manslaughter and duties of directors.

He will also be discussing whether concentration on rail safety has been to the detriment of areas such as construction and how the cost benefit of health and safety can be best assessed. Meacher will give his lecture on the afternoon of 23 May.
