Meter good response

With reference to your article on water shortage, (NCE 16 February), my water supply is metered.

We pay for our bread, butter and beer by the amount consumed, and it is absurd not to pay for our water consumption in the same way. For several reasons, the sooner everyone has a metered water supply the better.

Water shortages and hosepipe bans may occur this year, but we shall have some way to go before the situation is as bad as it was in Hong Kong in 1967 when, for a considerable period, water supply was limited to four hours, every fourth day!
