men's foil fencing event

Civil engineering student Richard Kruse finished eighth in the men's foil fencing event at the Olympic Games last week. Kruse, studying at London's City University, won through three rounds but lost in the quarter finals to Italian top seed Andrea Cassara.

Great Britain's fencing team in Athens was led by Construction Industry Council chief executive Graham Watts, himself a former champion fencer.

Consultant Halcrow is to inspect sea defences within the Stour and Orwell estuary in East Anglia to help the Environment Agency formulate its flood management strategy for the area. Future flood defences will be based on data collected during Halcrow's study.
