Membership service central to ICE role

Mr Wylie's letter (NCE 19/26 August) expressed surprise that the ICE South West Region was recruiting a membership development officer and that the salary level is not sufficient for a chartered civil engineer.

Regionalisation of the Institution and the introduction of regional support teams is taking place to provide members and those training to gain membership with a higher level of service than currently exists. The post of membership development officer is central to this strategy and will provide valuable assistance to companies and trainees.

The remuneration package that is being offered is to be agreed between the Institution and the successful candidate and will be based on their experience and career position.

Our priority is to get the best person to support the training needs of our stakeholders. I hope that all those qualified to take on this role and have the necessary commitment to developing the engineering talent of the South West will consider applying.

Barry Griffiths, regional manager, Institution of Civil Engineers South West, barry. griffiths@ice. org. uk
