Members vote to cut number of sponsors

ICE news

ICE CORPORATE members last month voted 89% in favour of reducing the number of sponsors required to become an associate or full member of the institution In future, those seeking to become members will need to get the backing of only three sponsors, not four, in line with the number required by members aiming to become fellows.

'Some engineers were having difficulty finding four members or fellows familiar with their career to sponsor their applications, ' said Pat Griffin, ICE Council office manager.

Corporate members also voted 96% in favour of allowing nonsucceeding vice presidents to become succeeding vice presidents if they changed in the first two years of service.

Bylaw 59 currently says a vice president can only serve for three years, before either stepping down or becoming president.

The change will allow a vice president to serve for up to five years before becoming president.

A non-succeeding vice-president will now be able to serve for up to two years before beginning a three year term as a succeeding vice president.

Council will continue to appoint all vice presidents.
