I attended the ICE South round of the NCE Communications Competition in Winchester last week. Five teams of young and enthusiastic engineers from local authorities and consultants had entered and all gave impressive and imaginative presentations as if before a real public meeting with its range of worries and biases.

Having been a judge at one of these competitions myself some years ago I can appreciate the difficulties the three judges must have had in deciding who should go through to the next round.

My one regret of the evening was how few senior members of the Institution were present.

I hope that more members will endeavour to support the teams in other regions and in future rounds of this competition.
