MEETING ITS WATERLOO

Track work to link section one of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link with the commuter line into London's Waterloo station is now under way. The work is part of Alfred McAlpine/ Amec joint venture's £80M Contract 330, which involves building a total of 16km of track to form the northern end of section one. The joint venture has used a specialist Kirow rail crane to lift track and conductor rails into place at Fawkham junction during weekend possessions this month. Section One is now 63% complete and is on schedule to finish by 2003.
