Maxwell Geosystems wins Bangkok MTR monitoring contract

Maxwell Geosystems has won a new contract to provide instrumentation and monitoring systems for the Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit (MTR) Blue Line Extensions.

Under the agreement, Maxwell till partner with Thailand-based GFE to install monitoring systems for construction of two 30m deep stations, a 40m deep intervention shaft, 2km of twin bored tunnels and a section of cut and cover tunnel.

According to Maxwell, monitoring was a key element in getting the project onto site as the scheme involves constructing the tunnels below the historic area of Rattanakosin Island and with shallow ground cover below the Chao Phraya River. One of the stations is also located below an area known to contain archaeologically significant artefacts.

Construction of the Blue Line Extension is expected to take five years to complete.
