Matter of import

Age discrimination exists for all sorts of wrong reasons, but the sad thing is that this country has opted to import civil engineers from overseas instead of promoting new or ex-civil engineers here to return to their profession. I wonder if those who took this decision really understand the long term damage they are doing to this profession.

I don't really think there is a skills shortage at all in this country.

Existing civil engineers are leaving the industry because they are not valued.

The Institution of Civil Engineers should oppose the skill importation, otherwise in a few years time it might have member shortages.
