Major civils wins boost Costain order book to record level

Major civils deals have taken Costain’s order book to a record £3.2bn, the firm revealed this morning.

In a statement to the City, the Berkshire-based contractor said it was preferred bidder for a further £400M of work.

Major contract wins in 2014 include work on Crossrail between Stratford and Shenfield; an appointment to Network Rail’s £2bn electrification programme; and a place on three National Grid infrastructure frameworks.

The firm said in a statement: “As a result of the implementation of its Engineering Tomorrow strategy, Costain is continuing to secure new work from major blue-chip customers who are investing billions of pounds in capital, operations and maintenance contracts and who require increasingly innovative solutions to solve their complex requirements.

“Costain’s major customers continue to consolidate their supply chains as they seek to work in a more strategic and collaborative manner with a reduced number of tier one engineering solutions providers.”

The board said it was confident of meeting its expectations in 2014.
