M5 shut after lorry strikes bridge causing major fire

Structural engineers are checking an overbridge on the M5 after a lorry struck it at about 2am this morning causing a major fire.

The M5 is closed in both directions between junctions J3 and J4 after the collision but has not given a timescale on when it will re-open.

According to a Highways Agency spokesman a structural engineer is on site and investigating the effects of the fire.

The fire brigade put out the fire at 4.43am, however police are still on the scene. Officials have not confirmed the condition of the bridge.
