M4 re-routed for flood channel construction

WORK STARTS new month on an 800m temporary diversion of the M4. The Highways Agency is carrying out the full width diversion between junctions 7 and 8/9, as part of the Environment Agency's £83M Maidenhead, Windsor and Eton flood alleviation scheme (see page 30). It will involve shifting the motorway to a temporary embankment to the north to allow engineers to route a 45m wide flood relief channel beneath the existing carriageway.
