M25 motorway shut for two days

The M25 motorway was shut for two days at the weekend after a truck overturned and rolled down an embankment spilling 7,000 litres of fuel.

Contractors were drafted in to remove contaminated soil from the motorway embankment, during the closure between junctions 5 and 6 near Sevenoaks. Fears of an explosion forced Surrey police to shut the motorway in both directions for over 24 hours after the 11.30pm incident on Friday.
