LONDON TRANSPORT executive chairman Peter Ford has been sacked in a surprise restructuring of the board by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.
Prescott announced on Tuesday that he had asked Ford 'to vacate the chairman's job' as of 22 April, claiming the changes would help to drive through implementation of the London Underground public private partnership.
'I have concluded that the best arrangement will be to move to a new senior management structure,' he said.
Ford had been chairman since 1994 and was previously a main board director at P&O. Non-executive vice chairman Brian Appleton takes over until a permanent appointment is made.
