Work was recently completed on a new river diversion and flood control works on the River Mersey, at Woolston, Warrington. Works comprised an 80m wide weir and 700m diversion of the river which is now capable of automatically handling flood flows down the River Mersey/Manchester Ship Canal to in excess of 240m3 with minimal rise in upstream water levels.
